Authors, Artists, Musicians & Others: Sell Directly to Your Target Audience Using Selz

MAKING MONEY IS THE GOAL BUT HOW DO I GET THERE?
While it might not make you a ton of money any time soon, Selz is a good way for creatives to get their product before an audience with no up-front costs.
EXPOSURE AT FIRST-NOT SALES
I’ve been building my Selz web store ( https://silverlight.selz.com/ ) for a couple of months now. I sell my books, nostalgic Americana signs and “The Mountain” T-shirts & Hoodies. The value of Selz in the beginning probably isn’t going to be in the sales but in the exposure your site/products/services can get.  For instance, I can expose one book, t-shirt, hoodie or metal sign or teacher tutoring service in just a few clicks to over 1000 followers.
KNOW YOUR VIEWS
Selz also tells you almost immediately how many “views” your click received. This is a valuable feature unavailable on most web store platforms that I know.

OTHER GOOD FEATURES
One of the best features of Selz is that I no longer need to email a PDF copy of one of my novels to customers – now I can send customers a link to my Selz site or they can get the link off  my Facebook, WordPress or Twitter pages and directly download it and be reading within seconds. You can easily sell anything at almost any price.
FREEBIES AS PROMOTION
Currently I give away free PDF downloads of two of my three books on Selz and the third – Comrade Anna – I sell using the button, “Pay what you want” which Selz, by default, starts the price at $1 – still not bad for an historical fiction novel  written over 13 years. You almost have to give away something on a  platform such as Selz – let’s face it, it’s not Amazon (where my books are available).
EASILY SHARE ITEMS/SERVICES FOR SALE
Selz has major social share buttons already embedded in the software so viewers can share to Twitter, Facebook, Google + and Pinterest easily at every item for sale. The danger of that convenience is the temptation to over share and thereby annoy potential customers.
LOADING PHOTOS IS A SNAP
It’s simple to load pictures and related sales information using Selz – far easier than other web store programs that I have tried. And the images are sharp and crisp.
5% – THAT’S IT FOR A BASIC READY-TO-SELL-WEB STORE
Selz will take 5% of your sale but everything else (the basics)  is included such as credit card charge capability. A pay-on-PayPal button will cost extra, however, and if you want customers to have the ability to review and comment (they can share on social media for free) at the bottom of your product item, it will cost you $1.99/month.
DOWNSIDE
The downside of Selz is you will be sharing not to the whole world but mostly to your followers on social media sites. You need to be careful about over-sharing on these platforms, especially Facebook. You can provide the link to your store to anyone, however.  And you can place the link to the web store just about anywhere to try to capture more of a ‘global’ market.

ONE OF MANY ECOMMERCE AVENUES YOU SHOULD USE

The best use of Selz is in combination with other e-Commerce strategies. So don’t rush it. Think of Selz as one of many avenues you can use to influence potential buyers. If you can offer people something they find useful (such as this article hopefully), they may trust you enough at some point, or feel grateful enough, to actually visit your web site or store and perhaps buy a product or service. You also can embed a Selz store link on your WordPress site, for instance, and have a Selz store on your Facebook pages.
PATIENCE AND WORDPRESS
Again, don’t expect huge results right away. You may spend the first few months setting up your web store and trying to drive traffic to it. You have to patiently develop your site one step at a time and gradually move traffic to it. Too much too soon and you may see a collapse and loss of existing viewers. You really should have a WordPress site and blog about things that interest you. This can help you to build traffic on other sites such as a web store.
EASY DOES IT
Don’t, in effect hold up a sign to all of your Twitter or Facebook acquaintances that essentially says, “Buy My Book, Buy My Book!” Subtlety is what is needed here, not the hard sell.
