In the beginning, Jack conspires with his best friend, Jeremy, to undermine his racist, secessionist teacher’s efforts to poison the minds of his young students with his benefits-of-slavery lectures.
Will the students buy into it? Not if Jack has any say.
With war looming on the horizon and after stunning humiliations of Schoolmaster Whittemore at the hands of Jack and Jeremy, the three develop a newfound understanding of one another as Book One closes.
But what will happen when Jack, Jeremy and their teacher find themselves together again heading to sea in August, 1860, aboard the slave ship, the Helena?
Book 2 is now loaded at Wattpad and you can read it free at: Jack: Book 2 in the Trilogy.
Book one has a solid average rating of 4.5 stars on Amazon. One reader characterized it as being “a rollicking read” while top 100 Amazon reviewer Grady Harp commented, “Adventure peppered with solid humor to make the tale yet more pungent, this first installment is fine reading for adults as well as young adults. A solid start on a worthy project.”
Book 2 has no Amazon reviews yet as it was just published. Those who enjoy Book 1, however, will love Book 2 as the story deepens and becomes a wild adventure leading into Book 3 – several chapters of which will be available free on Wattpad by September 1. Although the novel is geared to high school/college age students, adults will surely enjoy it as well.
After reading Jack, Book 1, please take a moment to do a short review on my Amazon author site as reader reviews are an indie author’s lifeblood. No reviews equals little or no sales. Thanks. Also one reason I am offering the trilogy for free on Wattpad is to develop many reader reviews. Lots of reviews usually mean lots of sales. So, again, even one or two lines would be very helpful and would be greatly appreciated. Here is my Amazon author page link: Click on Jack: Book 1 and Jack Book 2 to write a review. Also you’ll find the same link at the end of the Wattpad reading. Here’s the link: G. L. Dorion’s Amazon Author Site
Book 2 is now uploaded on Wattpad – also free for a limited time.
Jack: Book 2 is a “rollicking” high-seas adventure. Schoolmaster Jerome Whittemore – a former ‘preacher’ on slave ships – quits teaching after a devastating classroom humiliation in Book 1 at the hands of Jack and Jeremy, two fun-loving, non-conforming students.
Whittemore then returns to his former ship – the Helena – on what may be a suicide mission. Read it free at: Jack: Book 2 free at Wattpad
Ignorant of the ship’s trade in slaves and of Whittemore’s plan to incite rebellion with his newfound abolitionist teachings, Jack and Jeremy sign to the Helena.
Jack and his teacher had hated one another but their antagonistic relationship changes after Jack is finally triumphant. Jack decides to follow him to sea while recruiting his reluctant best friend, Jeremy, who invariably is skeptical of Jack’s adventure plans. Both develop a new respect for Whittemore and so sign for the same sea voyage – unaware that the Helena is a ‘devil slave ship’.
Whittemore is appalled to see them on deck that first night after the ship is beyond the northern-flowing Gulf Stream. The self-proclaimed ‘preacher of the deep’ for ‘the Church of the Holy Waters’, Whittemore intends to incite rebellion in his first sermon since glorifying the southern white plantation slavery system on the same ship three years past. Jeremy and Jack beg him to scuttle his ‘crazy’ plan but to no avail.
Book 2 opens on a stormy Sunday morning with master’s diatribe sermon against the slave trade and Captain Pendleton and his enablers – the crew of the Helena.
Intrigue, espionage, conspiracies, mutiny and hurricane plague the ship’s voyage during its several-month cruise through the Caribbean Sea to Jamaica, Cuba and Hispaniola and elsewhere – find out where in Book 2.
In Jamaica, Jack and Jeremy meet two free blacks – America and Mauricia – and together they conspire to free 110 African slaves who will board the Helena in Cuba.
